Identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Position

Bairnsdale Regional Health Service (BRHS) is seeking an experienced and committed Aboriginal Health Unit Manager to lead our Aboriginal Health Unit and strengthen culturally safe, person-centred healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across East Gippsland. This leadership role provides an opportunity to influence service design, build strong community partnerships, and support BRHS’s commitment to improved First Nations health outcomes.

 

About our Aboriginal Health Unit

The Aboriginal Health Unit plays a central role in strengthening culturally safe care across BRHS, working in partnership with Aboriginal communities and local Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations. The Unit’s current focus is on strengthening governance, cultural leadership, and service integration to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

 

About the role

Reporting to the Operational Director-@Home Services, this role will:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership of the Aboriginal Health Unit
  • Lead implementation and reporting of the BRHS Aboriginal Cultural Safety Plan
  • Provide expert advice on culturally safe healthcare across the organisation
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with Aboriginal communities and services
  • Oversee unit operations, workforce planning, reporting and budget management

 

About you

This is an Identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander position in accordance with the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality. You will also have:

  • Experience in leadership and/or service delivery within health, community or First Nations services
  • A strong understanding of Aboriginal culture and issues impacting access to culturally safe healthcare
  • Proven experience leading teams and working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong communication, reporting and organisational skills
  • Relevant qualifications in Aboriginal Health, Community Services, Social Sciences, Health or equivalent experience
