Latrobe Regional Health is looking for Acute Stroke Nurse to join our growing team on either a part time (0.7EFT) ongoing.

 

The Acute Stroke Nurse works collaboratively with the Stroke Coordinator and multidisciplinary team to deliver timely, evidence-based care for patients presenting with acute stroke or Transient Ischaemic Attach (TIA). This specialist role supports coordination of the stroke patient journey across the continuum of care – from Emergency Department presentation through acute inpatient management, rehabilitation planning and outpatient follow-up. The position leads stroke knowledge development for acute nursing teams and contributes to service quality through performance monitoring, benchmarking and continuous improvement in stroke care delivery.

The role of the Acute Stroke Nurse is to:

  • Participate in Code Stroke activations to support timely treatment, protocol adherence and effective acute stroke management.
  • Coordinate and support the stroke patient journey across emergency, acute inpatient, rehabilitation, discharge and follow-up care in collaboration with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide comprehensive, patient-centred and evidence-based nursing assessment, management, education and advocacy for stroke patients and carers.
  • Act as a clinical resource for staff, promoting best-practice stroke care and monitoring compliance with clinical guidelines, pathways and standards.
  • Contribute to stroke service quality and improvement activities, including maintaining the acute stroke patient list, coordinating post-discharge follow-up and supporting Australian Stroke Clinical Registry data collection and reporting.
  • Develop and deliver stroke-specific education and training for nursing and multidisciplinary staff, stroke survivors, families and community groups.

 

About you

Ideal candidates for this role will have:

  • Relevant nursing or health-related qualification with current unrestricted registration with AHPRA (or relevant discipline).
  • Extensive clinical experience and in-depth knowledge in stroke care, supported by evidence-based practice and ethical standards.
  • Strong organisational, time-management and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including experience contributing to reports, data analysis and quality improvement initiatives.
