Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) is looking for a ANUM Macalister to join our growing team on a permanent part-time basis.

 

Are you an experienced mental health nurse ready to step into a leadership role? Latrobe Regional Health is seeking an Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) to support the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care across our Flynn and Macalister inpatient units.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to recovery-focused practice, lead a dedicated clinical team, and help shape safe, innovative and consumer-driven mental health services.

 

About the Role

 

As the ANUM, you will provide advanced clinical leadership, oversee daily operations and support the Nurse Unit Manager in managing staff, resources and service delivery. You will champion evidence-based care, drive quality improvement, and uphold a culture of safety, collaboration and respect.

 

You will lead efforts to reduce restrictive practices, promote culturally safe and inclusive care, and ensure consumers receive high-standard treatment aligned with legislative and professional frameworks.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide senior nursing leadership to ensure accountability for high clinical standards.
  • Support comprehensive assessments, evidence-based interventions and person-centred care planning.
  • Promote open communication, multidisciplinary collaboration and positive consumer/carer engagement.
  • Ensure practice complies with legislation, LRH policies and national mental health standards.

 

Leadership & Management

  • Support the coordination and delivery of high-quality mental health services.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, quality documentation and achievement of KPIs.
  • Mentor, supervise and develop staff, modelling professional leadership.
  • Manage unit resources, budget oversight and participation in committees and working groups.

 

Human Resources & Workforce Development

  • Assist with recruitment, orientation, performance management and staff support.
  • Promote professional development, clinical supervision and mandatory training compliance.
  • Foster a safe, cohesive and positive workplace culture.

 

Safety & Quality

  • Maintain a safe environment for consumers, staff and visitors.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control, OHS requirements, emergency procedures and safety audits.
  • Lead incident reporting processes and contribute to quality improvement, research and evaluation activities.

About You

 

You are a compassionate, adaptable and collaborative nurse leader who demonstrates integrity, respect and strong communication skills. You hold a commitment to recovery-focused practice, continuous improvement and high-quality inpatient mental health care.

 

Essential Criteria

  • Division 3 Registered Nurse or Division 1 Registered Nurse with postgraduate mental health qualifications (AHPRA).
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience, including mental health inpatient care.
  • Strong understanding of the Mental Health Act 2014, National Mental Health Standards and relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and experience supervising staff.
  • Commitment to reducing restrictive practices and promoting recovery-oriented care.
  • Current Working with Children Check and police check (Aged Care).
  • Current Basic Life Support competency.

 

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications in management or related areas.
  • Clinical supervision training.
  • Experience in change management, audits, reporting and data analysis.
  • Computer literacy and confidence using clinical systems.
