Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) is looking for a Carer Lived Experience Worker to join our growing team on a permanent part-time basis.

 

About the Role

 

In this rewarding role, you will provide peer-based emotional and practical support to families, carers and supporters of people accessing community mental health and Alcohol and Other Drug services. Drawing on your own lived experience, you will build authentic connections that foster hope, resilience, and empowerment.

 

You will play a key role in supporting recovery journeys by helping families and carers feel heard, understood, and confident in navigating the mental health and AOD system.

You will:

  • Share your lived experience in a purposeful and supportive way
  • Provide emotional support and a safe, non-judgemental space
  • Advocate for families, carers and supporters
  • Assist with navigating services and accessing community supports
  • Participate in discharge planning and family meetings
  • Facilitate or support peer groups (where applicable)
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

 

About You

 

You are empathetic, self-aware, and passionate about supporting others. You understand the value of lived experience and can use it to build trust and connection.

 

You will also have:

  • Personal lived experience supporting someone with mental health and AOD challenges
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with diverse people
  • Understanding of recovery-oriented and human rights frameworks
  • Good organisational and time management skills

 

Requirements

  • Current full driver’s licence
  • Police Check and Working with Children Check
  • Willingness to complete Intentional Peer Support training
  • Certificate IV in Peer Work or Mental Health (or willingness to obtain)

 

Desirable

  • Experience in a lived experience or peer support role
  • Connections with peer or AOD support networks
  • Experience in customer service, administration, or support roles
