About the role

This key leadership position offers an exciting opportunity to provide both strategic and operational direction across LRH’s Surgical & Perioperative Services. You’ll work in close partnership with the LRH Executive and General Managers to lead multidisciplinary models of care and ensure ongoing improvements in clinical governance, safety, and quality.

 

You will be responsible for driving innovation, leading service development, and delivering measurable improvements aligned to key performance indicators and priority outcomes. This is your opportunity to influence the future of surgical care across Gippsland.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across the Surgical & Perioperative Services Division, ensuring delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centred care aligned with best practice standards.
  • Lead multidisciplinary collaboration by mentoring clinical directors and team leads, fostering integrated programs across surgical, medical, nursing, and allied health services.
  • Drive service development and innovation, including the design and implementation of clinical programs, training initiatives, and continuous quality improvement aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Oversee divisional performance, including financial management, compliance with clinical governance frameworks, and achievement of key performance indicators and business plan objectives.
  • Promote research and education, supporting clinical trials, mentoring medical staff in research activities, and ensuring a culture of learning through education and university partnerships.

 

Qualifications and requirements 

  • MBBS or equivalent – essential
  • Registration with the Medical Practitioners Board of Australia.
  • Fellowship with RANZCOG or RACP
  • Significant experience as a surgeon in any discipline.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a clinical service
  • Proven clinical competence as a specialist with a focus on multidisciplinary care
  • Experience in clinical program development and innovation
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead with empathy and respect
  • A strong sense of integrity and adaptability in a fast-evolving healthcare setting
