Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) is looking for an ED Mental Health Navigator to join our growing team on a permanent full-time basis.

 

Are you an experienced mental health nurse looking to make a meaningful impact at the frontline of emergency care? Latrobe Regional Health is seeking an ED Mental Health Navigator to join our dynamic Emergency Department team and help deliver timely, coordinated, consumer-centred mental health care.

 

About the Role

As the ED Mental Health Navigator, you will play a key role in coordinating the multi-disciplinary emergency mental health response for consumers presenting to the LRH Emergency Department.

 

You will support mental health, AOD and psychosocial assessments; guide treatment planning; facilitate safe discharge pathways; and promote assertive follow-up when required. Working closely with senior ED clinical leaders, you will ensure high-quality, timely outcomes for consumers and contribute to smooth patient flow across the department.

 

Key Responsibilities


• Coordinate the ED mental health response across PECT, CL services and medical staff to support timely review and decision-making.
• Contribute to ED triage and early intervention, providing expert advice to support safe and appropriate care planning.
• Oversee and guide the completion of high-quality assessments, interventions and documentation.
• Apply expert knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2024 and relevant legislation, ensuring least-restrictive, rights-based practice.
• Lead culturally safe, inclusive and clinically competent mental health care.
• Communicate effectively with ED staff, managers and key stakeholders to support operational targets, including NEAT performance.
• Promote effective multidisciplinary teamwork and clear clinical pathways.
• Contribute to leadership of the ED mental health team, supporting staff wellbeing, professional growth and safe practice.

About You


You are a compassionate, adaptable clinician with strong communication skills and a commitment to high-quality emergency mental health care. You demonstrate integrity, respect and a collaborative approach to supporting both consumers and colleagues.

 

Essential Criteria


• Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
• Minimum five years of recent acute clinical experience.
• Minimum two years of recent mental health nursing experience.

 

Desirable


• Postgraduate qualifications in mental health or a related area.
