Gippsland Regional Public Health Unit is looking for Epidemiologist to join our growing team on a full-time (1.0EFT) ongoing basis.

 

The Epidemiologist role is responsible for translating complex, multi-source health data into actionable insights that information public health policy, planning and interventions across the Gippsland region. Working closely with government partners and other local public health units, the Epidemiologist will help shape evidence-based strategies to improve health outcomes for priority populations.

The role of the Epidemiologist is:

  • Lead communicable disease surveillance, monitoring and analysis to identify trends and inform rapid responses.
  • Conduct advanced epidemiologist analyses using multiple data sources to support evidence-informed public health decision-making.
  • Develop population health outcomes frameworks, reporting systems and evaluation processes for key public health initiatives.
  • Communicate findings effectively to diverse audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders, through clear reports and visualisations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, government departments and research partners to support public health programs and research activities.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, data governance and continuous improvement of epidemiological practice.

 

About you

Ideal candidates for this role will have:

  • Post graduate qualifications in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of epidemiological methods and population health surveillance.
  • Advanced skills in data management and statistical software (e.g., R Suites, Power BI or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience working with large data sets and delivery high-quality reports.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
  • A collaborative mindset with proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and agencies.
