The role of the Epidemiologist is to:

  • Source, analyse and interpret complex epidemiologist and population-level datasets using specialised statistical tolls to identify trends, risks and emerging issues.
  • Develop high-quality reports, dashboards and data visualisations to support GRPHU activities, statutory reporting and stakeholder decision-making.
  • Support population health planning by developing outcome frameworks, monitoring systems and evaluations of public health initiatives and interventions.
  • Communicate epidemiological findings and concepts clearly to internal and external stakeholders through presentations, visualisations and written reports.
  • Maintain data quality and governance through quality assurance processes, case and outbreak reviews, and continuous improvement of surveillance and reporting systems.

About you

Ideal candidates for this role will have:

  • Demonstrated expertise in epidemiological methods for communicable disease surveillance, population health analysis and public health evaluation.
  • Advanced skills in data management, statistical analysis and visualisation using tools such as R and Power BI, with strong understanding of data governance.
  • Proven ability to generate actionable insights from data, supported by high-quality analytical writing and reporting.
  • Capacity to work independently while contributing to team-based programs, research activities and collaboration with state-wide public health partners (regional knowledge and research experience desirable).
