Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Geriatrician to join our Medicine Division ongoing, part time basis. In this specialist role, you will provide high-quality clinical care to older patients across inpatient and outpatient settings, support the supervision and training of junior medical staff, and contribute to the ongoing development of LRH’s geriatric services. 

 

Working as part of our multidisciplinary Geriatrics team, you will play a pivotal role in developing patient-centred treatment plans, ensuring best practice care, and supporting our commitment to excellence in clinical service delivery. You will also actively participate in service planning, policy development, and clinical education, making a meaningful contribution to both patient outcomes and the growth of our specialist services.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive clinical care to patients in inpatient and outpatient geriatric services.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant documentation to support communication, continuity of care, and legal requirements.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support junior medical staff, fostering their professional growth and clinical competence.
  • Collaborate effectively with medical, nursing, allied health, and community providers to ensure coordinated, patient-centred care.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of treatment protocols, clinical guidelines, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in service planning, target setting, and resource allocation for geriatric services.
  • Engage in professional development activities, stay informed on best-practice standards, and participate in research and quality improvement projects. 

 

About you

Ideal candidates for this role will have:

  • MBBS or equivalent and current registration with the Medical Practitioners Board of Australia.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in Geriatric Medicine or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in the care of older patients.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage respectfully and empathetically with patients, carers, and colleagues.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to person-centred care, quality improvement, and professional development.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to organisational change and evolving service needs.
  • Additional postgraduate education in public health, research, or management (desirable)
