Gippsland Health Alliance is looking for ICT Security Officer to join our growing team on a casual basis.
The ICT Security Officer plays a critical role in protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information systems across the Gippsland Health Alliance (GHA). Reporting to the Technical Operations Manager, this role supports daily security monitoring, incident detection and response, vulnerability and patch management, and compliance activities. The position works collaboratively with ICT teams and member health services to maintain a strong regional security posture, ensuring systems and data remain secure within complex multi-site healthcare environment.

The role of the ICT Security Officer is to:
- Monitor security systems and tools (SIEM, EDR, email gateways, identity platforms), investigate alerts, and support security incident response including containment, remediation and post-incident review.
- Coordinate vulnerability and patch management activities, track compliance across infrastructure and cloud environments, assist with penetration testing, and maintain cybersecurity action registers including ASD Essential Eight requirements.
- Develop, maintain and update security standards, policies and procedures, ensure documentation is accurate, current and aligned with regulatory obligations and evolving threats.
- Support delivery of security awareness training, phishing simulations, staff education sessions and development of tailored learning materials for clinical and administrative teams.
- Assist with compliance and risk activities including VPDSF, privacy legislation, internal/external audits, risk identification, mitigation planning and participation in cybersecurity working groups.
- Collaborate with managed security service providers, third-party vendors and internal ICT teams to coordinate monitoring, incident escalation and ongoing security improvements.
About you
Ideal candidates for this role will have:
- Completion of Year 12, a current driver’s licence and security-related certification (such as CompTIA Security+ or ASD Essential Eight Practitioner), or equivalent industry experience.
- Sound knowledge of cybersecurity principles, threat types, enterprise security controls and experience with SIEM, EDR, email gateways, vulnerability scanners and identity platforms.
- Understanding of Network fundamentals (LAN/WAN, firewalls, DNS, VPN, proxies) and identity and access management including active directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with strong organisational ability and experience in working in a healthcare or similarly regulated environment.
- Qualifications in cybersecurity/IT, advanced certifications in (CISSP, CISM, SSCP) and familiarity with Essential Eight Maturity Models and Microsoft 365 security tooling (desirable).
