Latrobe Regional Health is looking for Nurse Practitioner (AOD) to join our growing team on a full time (1.0EFT) ongoing basis.

 

The Nurse Practitioner (Alcohol and Other Drugs) provides advanced clinical leadership and specialist AOD care within the Emergency Department at Latrobe Regional Health. This role delivers expert screening, assessment, treatment and referral for patients presenting with alcohol and other drugrelated concerns, including those with complex comorbid mental health conditions. Working at an advanced practice level, the role supports service development, staff education and system improvement initiatives, strengthening integrated pathways between hospital and community services. The position plays a key role in improving patient flow, enhancing clinical capability across the Emergency Department and contributing to a responsive, evidencebased model of care.

The role of the Nurse Practitioner (AOD) is to:

  • Provide advanced AOD clinical care, including specialist assessment, screening, brief interventions and management of complex presentations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve management of AOD presentations, including patient flow and achievement of NEAT targets.
  • Lead education and training initiatives to build Emergency Department staff capability in AOD screening, assessment and intervention.
  • Strengthen referral pathways and service coordination with internal teams and external AOD and communitybased services.
  • Lead and contribute to service development, quality improvement and project initiatives to enhance AOD service capacity across LRH and the Gippsland region.
  • Provide professional leadership, clinical supervision and mentorship to staff, contributing to workforce development, governance and multidisciplinary collaboration.

 

About you

Ideal candidates for this role will have:

  • Registration with AHPRA as a Nurse Practitioner (or eligible), with a Master of Nursing or Nurse Practitioner qualification.
  • Relevant clinical background in mental health or AOD, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior nursing role.
  • Strong clinical expertise in AOD assessment, intervention and management of complex presentations, including comorbid mental health conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead education, service development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Advanced problemsolving, decisionmaking and organisational skills, with the ability to work autonomously while influencing systemwide outcomes.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in AOD, experience in emergency or psychiatric settings, and active involvement in research, policy or service innovation (desirable).
