Latrobe Regional Health is looking for First Year Psychiatry Registrars to join our growing team on a full time (1.0EFT) fixed term basis for 2027.
The Psychiatry Registrar provides high-quality psychiatric assessment and treatment to consumers referred to the LRH Mental Health Service, under supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist. This accredited training position delivers structured clinical rotations aligned with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) training requirements and supports the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred mental health services. Working within a multidisciplinary model of care, the registrar contributes to inpatient and community-based services, participates in after-hours on-call duties, and ensures that clinical practice aligns with LRH clinical governance, legislative obligations and contemporary mental health care standards.

The role of the Psychiatry Registrar is to:
- Assess, diagnose, formulate and treat patients referred to the Mental Health Service at a level appropriate to training, using comprehensive bio-physio-social and risk assessments.
- Participate actively in multidisciplinary team activities including ward rounds, handovers, case reviews and clinical meetings to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Provide day-to-day clinical leadership under consultant supervision, including managing patient lists, leading ward rounds, coordinating care and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Ensure accurate, timely and legally compliant documentation, including progress notes, medication charts and discharge summaries, in line with Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 requirements.
- Support supervision, teaching and guidance of junior medical staff, interns, HMOs and students, and engage in training, quality improvement and performance review activities.
About you
Essential Criteria:
- Completed a medical degree and be able to provide evidence of your qualifications
- Have Full General Medical Registration status with AHPRA at the commencement of First Year Psychiatry training in February 2027
- A minimum of 2 years prevocational experience at the time of transition to a First Year psychiatry registrar position (i.e. have completed PGY1 and PGY2 by February 2027)
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience of working in psychiatry as an Intern or PGY2
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with patients, carers, colleagues and external care providers.
- A commitment to ongoing education, reflective practice, quality improvement and culturally safe care within regional mental health service.
