Latrobe Regional Health is looking for Senior Midwife to join our growing team on a full time or part time on an ongoing basis.

 

The Senior Midwife is a senior leadership role responsible for providing strategic, operational and clinical leadership across midwifery services. The position oversees the planning, development and delivery of high-quality, safe and person-centred maternity care in alignment with organisational goals and healthcare standards. This role plays a key part in shaping workforce capability, driving service improvement, ensuring robust clinical governance, and championing excellence with midwifery practice.

The role of the Senior Midwife is to:

  • Provide expert leadership to midwifery services, including developing and implementing strategies, policies and standards to improve maternity outcomes.
  • Oversee day-to-day clinical and operational functions, ensuring maternity care is safe, effective, evidence-based and compliant with governance requirements.
  • Monitor and evaluate service performance, identifying areas for improvement and leading innovation and service development initiatives.
  • Support workforce development through mentorship, recruitment, retention strategies, training programs and fostering a positive, supportive work environment.
  • Promote person-centred, culturally safe care by ensuring services meet the needs, preferences and experiences of women, families and diverse communities.
  • Build strong partnerships internally and externally, contributing to professional networks, collaborative care models and the advancement of midwifery practice.

 

About you

Ideal candidates for this role will have:

  • Registered Midwife with AHPRA with a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery and/or Master’s (preferred)
  • Strong integrity, outstanding communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Extensive midwifery experience (8-10 years) including birth suite and postnatal care, and at least 3-5 years in leadership or management role.
  • Proven ability to lead large teams, influence service improvement and manage strategic and operational challenges.
  • A commitment to person-centred, culturally sensitive maternity care that supports women, families and communities.
  • Excellent clinical judgement, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to champion evidence-based practice.
  • Adaptability, compassion, empathy and respect, with a strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
