Latrobe Regional Health is looking for Surgical Liaison Nurse to join our growing team on a Part Time (0.8EFT) Ongoing basis.

 

We are seeking an experienced and patient-focused Surgical Liaison Nurse to join our Patient Services Unit. In this key role, you will support the management and prioritisation of patients throughout their surgical journey, from referral and waitlist management through to surgery. Acting as a central point of contact between patients, surgeons, general practitioners, and multidisciplinary teams, you will help optimise patient readiness for surgery, improve communication, and drive high-quality patient outcomes.

The role of the Surgical Liaison Nurse is to:

  • Coordinate and prioritise patients on the planned surgery waitlist, ensuring compliance with the Planned Surgery Access Policy and relevant clinical criteria.
  • Conduct pre-operative assessments and patient optimisation activities, including reviewing medical histories, health status, and investigation results to ensure surgical readiness.
  • Provide pre-operative education and support to patients, ensuring they are informed and prepared throughout their surgical journey.
  • Act as a key liaison between patients, consultants, GPs, and healthcare providers to facilitate communication, coordination, and continuity of care.
  • Collaborate with Patient Services Unit and Pre-Admission Clinic staff to manage patient documentation, referrals, and surgical pathways effectively.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and specialty portfolios within Surgical Services, contributing to service development and improved patient outcomes.

 

About you

Ideal candidates for this role will have:

  • Registered Nurse (Division 1) with current AHPRA registration and demonstrated surgical nursing experience.
  • Strong understanding of the surgical patient journey, including pre-operative assessment, care coordination, and patient optimisation.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, clinicians, and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, solve problems, and make sound clinical decisions in a dynamic environment.
  • Committed to patient-centred care, continuous improvement, and achieving quality and performance outcomes.
  • A proactive and adaptable team player with strong organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
