South Gippsland Hospital (SGH) is a public rural health service providing integrated acute hospital and community care services. Care is delivered through our Community Health Centre, Banksia Centre, and in clients’ homes across the region. In partnership with the doctors of Foster Medical Centre, SGH supports the health and wellbeing of the Foster community and surrounding areas, including Wilsons Promontory.
South Gippsland Hospital is seeking a motivated Mental Health Counsellor to join our team. The role is responsible for providing high quality assessment and evidence-based counselling interventions to clients as they adjust to life situations, cope with changing health needs, deal with grief and/or trauma and face other challenges.  The counsellor supports the client to determine the most appropriate care and support that is needed to meet their needs.

The counsellor will work to improve the health and wellbeing of clients, through the provision of safe, high quality mental health services in accordance with the Primary Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Stepped Care program.
To be successful in this role, you will meet the below requirements:
•    Be required to satisfy the registration requirements for this role as a Mental Health Counsellor with either PACFA, ACA, AASW or the AHPRA.
•    Accreditation in Mental Health, depending on formal qualification or post graduate qualifications in Mental Health (desirable)
•    Have a current Victorian Drivers Licence
•    Have a current police check and working with children check

To be successful in this role, you will have the below experience:
•    5 years-experience (preferred), with demonstrated clinical knowledge, assessment and intervention skills in an acute, rehabilitation and / or community Mental Health setting
•    A strong working knowledge and ability to provide evidence based therapeutic interventions surrounding common mental health issues for people, including indications for risk in people experiencing serious mental ill health and suicidal ideation
•    Ability to set priorities and work collaboratively, as part of a multi-disciplinary team or autonomously in an efficient manner to meet requirements of the role 
•    Well-developed verbal, written and IT communication skills 
•    Demonstrated ability to competently maintain documentation and statistical data
•    Evidence of professional supervision and/or professional development
