0.42 EFT, permanent part time position

South Gippsland Hospital is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Registered Nurse to fill a new position within our Perioperative Unit.

This position is required to provide additional perioperative workforce capacity and maintain minimum safe staffing levels of five nurses per theatre session. As the role is aligned to existing theatre sessions, applicants must be available to work the advertised EFT in addition to current theatre commitments. Applications from staff seeking to transfer existing theatre EFT into this position will not be considered, as this would not increase theatre staffing capacity.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Knowledge of GENCA (Gastroenterological Nurses College of Australia) standards and guidelines.
  • Apply nursing knowledge and skills to ensure a safe environment for perioperative patients and the healthcare team, including knowledge of the Australian College of Operating Nurses (ACORN) Standards for Perioperative Nursing in Australia.
  • Current competency in Basic Life Support. Advanced Life Support competency preferred.
  • Demonstrate willingness to undertake relevant training / course to develop skills and acquire knowledge and ability to participate in the Performance Appraisal.
  • Demonstrate the ability to assist in the processing of reusable medical devices with knowledge of the AS/NZS 5369: 2023.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
  • Work within scope of practice according to qualifications and APHRA registration is applicable. Recent experience desired.
  • Work according to the conduct and policies of SGH.
  • Current Registration with Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board as an Enrolled or Registered Nurse
  • Ability to provide evidence based perioperative nursing care as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to be flexible with rosters and on call shifts to provide an emergency caesarean theatre team.
  • Ability to rotate through various perioperative roles of instrument, circulating and post anaesthetic care unit in accordance with ACORN standards, within scope of practice and under RN supervision.
  • Good organisational and interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and patient safety
  • Preferred 2 years post initial registration as a Registered Nurse / Midwife, but not essential.
