  • Do you have experience working in a regional hospital?
  • Would you like to broaden your skills managing a diverse range of obstetric and gynaecological presentations?
  • Are you innovative and committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced Obstetrics & Gynaecology Consultant to join West Gippsland Healthcare Group, located just 1.5 hours east of Melbourne in the thriving regional community of Warragul.

Our Maternity Service is supported by a dedicated and proactive team of midwives and nurses, fostering a collaborative, professional, and supportive working environment. We pride ourselves on our consultative, team-based approach to patient care, with services operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In this role, you will provide comprehensive on-site and after-hours obstetric and gynaecology services across both inpatient and outpatient settings. You will also play a key role in supporting local General Practitioners Obstetricians and supervising junior medical staff (including HMOs and senior registrars), and contributing to clinical governance through audits and quality improvement activities.

A significant component of the position includes teaching and supporting medical students through the Monash Gippsland Regional Clinical School, contributing to the development of the future rural medical workforce.

About the West Gippsland Healthcare Group

We provide acute medical and surgical, obstetric, emergency, community and aged care services, primarily in the Shire of Baw Baw, approximately 100km east of Melbourne. Our history dates back to 1888 when the community established a hospital to service the area between Melbourne and Sale. We have health service delivery responsibilities across a mixture of rural, urban residential and agricultural areas located within the Shire of Baw Baw, and draw clientele from the peripheral east and west of the shire, servicing a primary catchment population of approximately 47,000.

We hold full accreditation status from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards and very strong links with our regional hospital and other metro hospitals. Our administrative headquarters are located at the West Gippsland Hospital in Warragul, the largest town in the West Gippsland area.

Required skills and experience include

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG)
  • Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
