CGH provides acute care as part of an integrated service delivery model across Wellington Shire and beyond. The service provides beds across three campuses (Sale, Maffra and Heyfield). Acute services include a full-time emergency department, critical care unit, neonatal critical care unit, three operating theatres, day procedure unit, oncology and dialysis services in addition to general medical and services and sub-acute services including rehabilitation.
CGH is also a leading teaching hospital, affiliated with Monash University's School of Rural Health and provides placements and clinical experience for students.
About Department
The Critical Care Unit is an 8 bed combined coronary care, intensive care and high dependency unit. Intensive care patients are supported by Alfred Intensivists via Telehealth. There are also 8 Telemetry units available for cardiac monitoring of patients in other units.
About the Role
You will support the Nurse Unit Manager in leading and managing the clinical unit by contributing to the clinical, financial, human resource and quality management. The Associate Nurse Unit Manager is responsible for the delivery of direct nursing care to individuals and groups and assumes responsibility and accountability for the functioning of the clinical unit in the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager.
Duties
The ANUM operates in a complex environment characterised by a need to:
- Work as part of a large multidisciplinary team that provides services across a broad range of acute critical care, medical, surgical and paediatric services
- Provide support to the NUM as well as leadership and management support for unit staff
- Work in a highly organised manner with ability to balance competing priorities and work demands and to identify and respond appropriately to critical and urgent clinical needs
- Practice rational though processes when faced with complex issues and the ability to maintain a calm demeanour when solving problems
- Support the management team in appropriately prioritising patient need and to operate efficiently and effectively with a view to meeting community needs and providing a financially sustainable service
- Understand and operate in a work environment driven by the need to meet clinical quality and safety guidelines, and
- Work closely and in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Registered Midwife and Nurse holding current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Post graduate qualification in Critical Care Nursing with experience at a senior level in critical care nursing
- Knowledge of and experience in both operational and management levels of the Critical Care Unit
- Demonstrates advanced clinical and patient assessment skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work as a team leader and motivate other staff
