CGH provides acute care as part of an integrated service delivery model across Wellington Shire and beyond. The service provides beds across three campuses (Sale, Maffra and Heyfield).

 Acute services include a full-time emergency department, critical care unit, neonatal critical care unit, three operating theatres, day procedure unit, oncology and dialysis services in addition to general medical and services and sub-acute services including rehabilitation.

CGH also provides aged care and community services in the Wellington Shire and beyond.

We operate four residential aged care homes located in Sale, Maffra, and Heyfield delivering high-quality, person-centred care in supportive and homelike environments.

CGH provides a wide range of community-based services that support people to remain healthy, active, and independent in their own homes. This includes the provision of Support at Home, Commonwealth Home Support Programs, and other in-home services tailored to individual needs.

Our integrated model of care is supported by a multidisciplinary allied health team offering physiotherapy, dietetics, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and social work. We also provide accessible public dental services to enhance community wellbeing.

CGH is also a leading teaching hospital, affiliated with Monash University's School of Rural Health and provides placements and clinical experience for students.

About Department

The Health Information Services team plays a critical role in supporting high quality patient care, organisational performance and compliance. The department is responsible for health records management, clinical coding, data quality, statutory reporting, privacy compliance, Freedom of Information (FOI) processes and health information governance

 

About the Role

The Chief Health Information Manager is a senior leadership position responsible for the strategic direction, operational management and continuous improvement of Health Information Services at CGH. Reporting to the Executive Director Corporate Services, the role ensures patient information is managed accurately, securely and in accordance with legislative, regulatory and professional standards.

 

Working collaboratively with clinical, operational and executive leaders, you will provide expert leadership across health information management, clinical coding, data governance, privacy, Freedom of Information, health record access and digital health initiatives. You will also provide strategic oversight of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), supporting optimisation, system enhancements, improved workflows and data quality outcomes across the organisation.

 

Duties

·         Lead and manage Health Information Services across the organisation.

·         Provide strategic oversight of health records, data governance, privacy and information management practices.

·         Lead clinical coding services and support improvements in clinical documentation and funding outcomes.

·         Oversee reconciliation and reporting of statutory datasets including VAED, VEMD and VINAH.

·         Manage Freedom of Information (FOI) applications, subpoenas and health information access requests.

·         Monitor information quality and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

·         Provide specialist advice on privacy, legislation, clinical documentation and health information management.

·         Lead workforce planning, staff development and performance management within the department.

·         Support organisational strategic initiatives relating to digital health, information governance and service improvement.

Mandatory

·         Tertiary qualification in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Clinical Coding, Health Administration or a related discipline.

·         Eligibility for membership or current membership with the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) or equivalent professional body.

·         Extensive experience in health information management within a healthcare environment.

·         Demonstrated leadership experience within a Health Information Services department.

·         Strong knowledge of clinical coding standards, health records legislation, privacy requirements and health data governance.

·         Experience managing health records, coding services, data quality, information governance and health information systems.

·         Proven experience in strategic planning, service development, quality improvement and change management.

Highly Regarded

·         Postgraduate qualifications in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Business Administration or a related field.

·         Experience leading digital health transformation initiatives.

·         Knowledge of accreditation standards and healthcare compliance requirements.

·         Experience with enterprise reporting, data governance and health analytics programs.
