About Us
Central Gippsland Health Service (CGHS) is the leading provider of health and residential aged care services in the Wellington Shire, serving a population of over 42,000 and offering specialist services to the East Gippsland region.
Operating across Sale, Maffra, and Heyfield, CGHS provides a range of acute, aged care, and community health services, including a 24/7 Emergency Department, oncology, dialysis, and surgical services.
Our Medical Services Division includes specialties such as ICU/CCU, cardiology, oncology, and respiratory medicine. The division is supported by experienced consultants, as well as junior medical staff, including physician trainees on rotation.
About the Role
The Consultant Anaesthetist provides anaesthetic services for a range of elective surgical specialities for the population of Central and Eastern Gippsland and operates within a multidisciplinary team. They provide services across inpatient, perioperative and emergency settings.
In conjunction with the Head of Unit Anaesthetics and Director Medical Services, the position holder participates in a 24/7 roster to provide emergency services including; anaesthetic services for emergency surgery, procedural expertise (e.g Intubation and vascular access) and support for CCU and resuscitation services such as a Medical Emergency Team (MET) and Code Blue calls.

Key Responsibilities

To provide safe and high-quality patient care before, during and after surgery and medical procedures.
- Provision of perioperative and operative anaesthetic services for patients having surgical, medical, obstetric or investigational procedures, including continuous monitoring during such procedures.
- In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, management of the work of the day surgery unit, in particular the anaesthesia component.
- Acute resuscitation services for medical, surgical and trauma emergencies, including retrieval services.
- Assistance with the intensive care management of patients, when needed.
About You
Mandatory Requirements:
- Registered or registrable medical qualifications with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetics (or assessment by the college that the position holder is suitable for the position)
