About the Role

As a Consultant Anaesthetist, you will provide high-quality anaesthetic care across elective and emergency surgical services, working closely with surgeons, physicians, nursing staff and allied health professionals to deliver safe, patient-centred care.

You will participate in a 24/7 on-call roster alongside the Head of Anaesthetics and Director of Medical Services, providing emergency anaesthetic services and critical care support across the organisation.

This role offers a broad scope of practice across:

  • Elective surgery
  • Emergency surgery
  • Obstetrics
  • Day surgery
  • Procedural sedation
  • Critical care support
  • Perioperative medicine

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based anaesthetic care before, during and after surgery and medical procedures
  • Provide perioperative anaesthetic services across surgical, medical, obstetric and diagnostic procedures
  • Participate in emergency anaesthetic and trauma services
  • Provide airway management, intubation and vascular access expertise
  • Support Medical Emergency Team (MET) and Code Blue responses
  • Assist with intensive care management when required
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes
  • Contribute to teaching, supervision and mentoring of junior medical staff
  • Participate in quality improvement and clinical governance activities

About You

You will be an experienced Anaesthetist who enjoys working collaboratively and is committed to delivering exceptional patient care.

Essential requirements include:

  • Current registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA), or eligibility as assessed by ANZCA
  • Demonstrated expertise in contemporary anaesthetic practice
  • Experience in critical care medicine
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to teaching, clinical excellence and continuous improvement

CGH provides acute care as part of an integrated service delivery model across Wellington Shire and beyond. The service provides beds across three campuses (Sale, Maffra and Heyfield).

 Acute services include a full-time emergency department, critical care unit, neonatal critical care unit, three operating theatres, day procedure unit, oncology and dialysis services in addition to general medical and services and sub-acute services including rehabilitation.

CGH also provides aged care and community services in the Wellington Shire and beyond.

We operate four residential aged care homes located in Sale, Maffra, and Heyfield delivering high-quality, person-centred care in supportive and homelike environments.

CGH provides a wide range of community-based services that support people to remain healthy, active, and independent in their own homes. This includes the provision of Support at Home, Commonwealth Home Support Programs, and other in-home services tailored to individual needs.

Our integrated model of care is supported by a multidisciplinary allied health team offering physiotherapy, dietetics, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and social work. We also provide accessible public dental services to enhance community wellbeing.

CGH is also a leading teaching hospital, affiliated with Monash University's School of Rural Health and provides placements and clinical experience for students.
