Central Gippsland Health Service (CGHS) is the leading provider of health and residential aged care services in the Wellington Shire, serving a population of over 42,000 and offering specialist services to the East Gippsland region.
Operating across Sale, Maffra, and Heyfield, CGHS provides a range of acute, aged care, and community health services, including a 24/7 Emergency Department, oncology, dialysis, and surgical services.
Our Medical Services Division includes specialties such as ICU/CCU, cardiology, oncology, and respiratory medicine. The division is supported by experienced consultants, as well as junior medical staff, including physician trainees on rotation.
About the Role
The Consultant Physician will play a key role in providing senior medical leadership and support in General Medicine, focusing on high-quality, integrated care across both acute and community settings.
Classification: Specialist Year (1–9)
Enterprise Agreement: Medical Specialists (Victorian Public Health Sector) (AMA Victoria/ASMOF) Enterprise Agreement 2022–2026
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care:
- Provide clinical and professional leadership within the medical division, working collaboratively with other clinicians and the nurse unit managers.
- Arrange ongoing medical management in accordance with the best interests of the patient seeking advice from appropriate tertiary referral centres where indicated.
- Support the development of and participate in the on call Physician roster, including providing after hours support to the Emergency Department, Critical Care Unit and inpatient units.
- Provide ambulatory consulting services in general medicine through CGH clinics or private practice as agreed. These may include, but not limited to:
- Rapid access medical clinic
- General Medical clinics
- Diabetes and Endocrinology clinics
- Hospital In the Home Service
- Outpatient Services:
- Conduct clinics.
- Teaching & Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff and medical students.
- Contribute to clinical governance activities, quality improvement initiatives, and departmental meetings.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional patient-centred care.
About You
Mandatory Requirements:
- Registered or registrable medical qualifications with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent qualifications suitable for an Area of Need appointment.
