About the Role
As a GP Anaesthetist, you will provide safe, high-quality anaesthetic services across a diverse range of elective and emergency procedures while working collaboratively with surgeons, physicians, nursing staff and allied health professionals.
You will participate in a 24/7 emergency roster in consultation with the Head of Anaesthetics, providing anaesthetic support for emergency surgery and critical care responses.
Clinical practice includes anaesthesia for:
- General Surgery
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Orthopaedics
- Endoscopy
- Ophthalmology
- ENT (Otorhinolaryngology)
- Urology
- Vascular Surgery
- Paediatric Surgery
- General Dentistry
- Additional specialties as services expand
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, evidence-based anaesthetic care before, during and after procedures
- Conduct pre-anaesthetic assessment and post-operative care
- Provide perioperative services across surgical, medical and obstetric procedures
- Participate in emergency surgery and after-hours anaesthetic services
- Provide airway management, intubation and vascular access expertise
- Respond to Medical Emergency Team (MET) and Code Blue calls
- Supervise recovery room patients
- Support and supervise anaesthesia trainees and other clinical staff
- Work collaboratively to deliver high-quality perioperative services
- Participate in clinical governance and quality improvement activities
About You
You are an experienced GP Anaesthetist who enjoys procedural medicine and values collaborative, patient-centred care.
Essential requirements include:
- Current registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
- Accreditation through the Joint Consultative Committee on Anaesthesia (JCCA)
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), or eligibility as a final-year GP Registrar undertaking recognised anaesthetic training
- Experience in procedural anaesthesia and critical care
- Advanced Life Support (ALS)
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to patient safety, teaching and continuous improvement

We operate four residential aged care homes located in Sale, Maffra, and Heyfield delivering high-quality, person-centred care in supportive and homelike environments.
