Operating across Sale, Maffra, and Heyfield, CGHS provides a range of acute, aged care, and community health services, including a 24/7 Emergency Department, oncology, dialysis, and surgical services.

Our Medical Services Division includes specialties such as ICU/CCU, cardiology, oncology, and respiratory medicine. The division is supported by experienced consultants, as well as junior medical staff, including physician trainees on rotation.

About the Role

The General Practitioner (GP) Anaesthetist provides anaesthetic services for a range of elective Surgical specialties including: Endoscopy, General Dentistry, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Orthopaedics, Paediatric Surgery, Urology, Vascular Surgery and other surgical specialties as may be introduced.

In consultation with the Head of Unit Anaesthetic, the position holder participates in a 24/7 roster to provide emergency services, including: anaesthetic services for emergency surgery, procedural expertise (e.g. intubation and vascular access) and support for resuscitation services such as Medical Emergency Team (MET) and Code Blue Calls.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide safe and high quality patient care before, during and after surgery and medical procedures.

    • Provision of anaesthesia and perioperative services for patients having surgical, medical, obstetric or investigational procedures, including continuous monitoring during such procedures.
    • Pre-anaesthesia assessment and early post-anaesthesia care of patients.
    • Supervision of anaesthesia trainees and other staff as appropriate.
    • Supervision of recovery room patients.
    • In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, management of the work of the day surgery unit, in particular the anaesthesia component.

About You

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Registered or registrable medical qualifications with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • Accreditation by the Joint Consultative Committee of Anaesthesia (JCCA)
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (or assessment that the position holder is suitable for the position as a final year GP Registrar in training).
