Opportunities exist for experienced and motivated Maternal Child Health Nurse to work within the Maternal Child Health Women’s CGH team maximising the health and wellbeing, learning, development and safety outcomes for children birth to six years of age

MCH Service at CGH  

The M&CH service is provided by a team of nurses located at Sale, Maffra, Rosedale, Heyfield and Stratford. The nurses work independently with their families and maintain a strong team approach for overall service provision. The M&CH team maintains strong relationships with other agencies and

clinicians working with families with young children including The Orange Door, Child Protection, paediatricians and allied health. The service aims to build strong collaborative partnerships to facilitate family focused, integrated, multidisciplinary support for families.

 Duties

The Maternal & Child Health Nurse works in accordance with the Framework of the Department of Health Maternal and Child Health Service practicing in accordance with legislation, M&CH professional practice standards and program guidelines.

The core elements of the service are the Key Ages & Stages consultations which are routinely provided through centre visits. For families identified as vulnerable, the visits may be provided at home through the Enhanced Home Visiting service.   

Responsibilities 

Working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team as a maternal child Health Nurse you will provide holistic, family-centred support to families with young children, promoting child health, development and wellbeing

The MCH Nurse will contribute to health promotion and education through; family support, health surveillance, early identification and intervention for identified health and developmental concerns in children and their families from birth to six years of age.

The MCH Nurse will be required to maintain accurate clinical records and data reporting, support safe practice through infection prevention and control and participate in professional development and continuous learning

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Mandatory:

 1. Registered nurse & registered midwife holding current registration with  Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority

2. Post Graduate Maternal & Child Health qualification

3. Proven and significant experience as a Maternal & Child Health nurse

4. Understanding of and experience in application of the M&CH Key Ages & Stages Framework

5. Preferred leadership/coordination experience

6. Preferred Lactation qualification

7. Current Driver’s License (evidence must be provided)

8. Clear Police Check regarding any criminal record will be required prior to finalisation of the appointment and updated every three (3) years

9. Clear Working with Children Check
