We operate four residential aged care homes located in Sale, Maffra, and Heyfield delivering high-quality, person-centred care in supportive and homelike environments.
CGH provides a wide range of community-based services that support people to remain healthy, active, and independent in their own homes. This includes the provision of Support at Home, Commonwealth Home Support Programs, and other in-home services tailored to individual needs.
Our integrated model of care is supported by a multidisciplinary allied health team offering physiotherapy, dietetics, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and social work. We also provide accessible public dental services to enhance community wellbeing.

About Department
The CGH Obstetrics and Gynaecology service includes a general Women’s and Children’s unit, labour ward and a Level 3 Special Care Nursery, and operates with four consultant Obstetricians /Gynaecologists, one Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar, one GP Obstetrics Registrar, Obstetric and Gynaecology Hospital Medical Officer and a capable team of nursing, allied health and support staff. CGH is an accredited Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology training site.
About the Role
This role is that of an unaccredited Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar. The term is to provide appropriate exposure and experience to enable the doctor to attain the required skills and knowledge as an Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar assists in the management of obstetric/gynaecology inpatients and supports the ED team in managing emergency presentations.
This will occur within the principles of care coordination, where patients/clients/residents have access to a highly coordinated health care and community support system.
Duties
- Clinical management of obstetric and gynaecology patients, including appropriate history taking, physical examination, investigation, assessment, and care planning and coordination.
- Regularly review patient care objectives, physical and mental status, including the development and communication of a discharge plan from the time of admission.
- Thoroughly and promptly document in the medical record patient information obtained from various sources, in an appropriate and ongoing manner, including initial assessment, treatment, clinical progress and investigations; and to succinctly record this in the discharge summary at the time of discharge. Discharge summaries should be completed within 2 working days of discharge.
- Attendance at antenatal and gynaecology outpatients clinic and labour ward as required.
- Effective liaison with midwifery and nursing staff to ensure a high standard of clinical care.
- Provide assistance at theatre as required for Gynaecology and Obstetric patients; developing advanced surgical skills in this discipline.
- Initiate, implement and monitor management of patients under supervision, incorporating the appropriate testing and investigation.
- Foster rapport and good communications using appropriate language, written or verbal, with the patient and other parties as required, including contact with the usual General Practitioner.
- Use technology appropriately, with cost benefit and potential patient benefit and complications considered.
- Counsel and support patients and their families as required.
- Participate in operating theatre sessions as required, primarily as an assistant; perform certain procedures, under supervision as appropriate, but with increasing independence over time.
- Post operative management including management of complications.
- Participation in the obstetrics and gynaecology registrar senior roster and participation in the after-hours registrar roster for obstetric and gynaecological emergencies.
- Provide supervision and guidance to Junior Medical Staff and medical students in the department.
- Continually update and extend personal medical knowledge and skills, regularly attend Clinical Meetings and remain familiar with current medical literature.
- Perform other duties as agreed to and as required on occasions by Medical Administration in relation to cover of other HMO's due to illness, bereavement or patient transfer.
- Manage own professional development as an Adult learner including attendance at unit audit meetings and case reviews and onsite education sessions available, e.g. Grand Rounds.

a. Clinical experience, which demonstrates the ability to exercise sound clinical ability and judgment. b. Completion of PGY2 or equivalent by the start of their first year of training. c. Interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact appropriately, ethically and responsibly with patients from varied ethnic backgrounds, their families and all members of the health care team. d. A basic knowledge of the RANZCOG Training Program. e. A familiarity with the Australian or New Zealand health system (whichever is applicable) and demonstrated knowledge of current issues affecting women’s health care in the relevant country, including cultural diversity issues. f. A demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career in obstetrics and gynaecology. Including enrolment in RANZCOG Training Program.
