We operate four residential aged care homes located in Sale, Maffra, and Heyfield delivering high-quality, person-centred care in supportive and homelike environments.
CGH provides a wide range of community-based services that support people to remain healthy, active, and independent in their own homes. This includes the provision of Support at Home, Commonwealth Home Support Programs, and other in-home services tailored to individual needs.
Our integrated model of care is supported by a multidisciplinary allied health team offering physiotherapy, dietetics, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and social work. We also provide accessible public dental services to enhance community wellbeing.
CGH is also a leading teaching hospital, affiliated with Monash University's School of Rural Health and provides placements and clinical experience for students.

About Department
The breast-feeding support service is based at Sale and works closely with the Women’s and Childrens Unit and our Maternal Child and Health Service teams. Face to face and telephone consultations are conducted through the consulting suites by appointment.
About the Role
Opportunities exist for experienced and motivated Lactation consultant to Coordinate the Central Gippsland Health Service Breastfeeding Support Service. This will involve supporting the establishment of breast feeding and helping to overcome breast feeding difficulties, with the mother being the key person setting goals.
• Assisting women in the Wellington Shire, to enhance their health and wellbeing, as well as the health and wellbeing of their children, by providing accessible community based education around supporting the nutrition of babies/young children.
• Leading and supporting the implementation of contemporary breast feeding practices across Central Gippsland Health Service, through working collaboratively with relevant clinical areas, including the Women’s and Children’s Unit, the Maternal and Child Health Service and with the Professional Development Unit. This will include taking a leadership role in policy and procedure development.
• This position is for a total of 12 hours per week – 8 hours of this time will be spent in the community setting providing client consultations; the remaining 4 hours will be spent linking with the acute setting to both assist inpatients in breastfeeding practices, and also to work with the relevant staff to implement contemporary breast-feeding practices across the organisation.
Duties
- Leading and supporting the implementation of contemporary breast-feeding practices across Central Gippsland Health Services, in consultation and collaboration with the key stakeholders (as above).
- Complete appropriate client documentation, ensuring progress notes and regular evaluation criteria are met.
- Ensure that the mother is at the centre of setting goals for their care, which will involve ensuring that they mother receives and understands the information they require about the service.
- Promote the use of available community resources to complement the program.
- Ensure the timely completion of relevant reports, including regular internal client activity reports and data reports for funding bodies.
- Communicate/liaise effectively to ensure that the organisational goals and objectives are met.
- Promote a team work environment.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Registration with the Victorian Nurses Board as a Registered Nurse Division 1
- Current Lactation Consultant certificate
- Experienced in research and program management
- A commitment to empowering the individual to take control of their own situation, and providing the skills and knowledge to do this, in relation to this service
- Sound judgement, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Organisational and time management skills
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility, creativity and initiative within the work role
- Efficient and effective computer skills, particularly Microsoft Word; and the relevant data management systems to the area of work
